My review from PatternReview.com:
Cross-back figure skating dress. This dress uses ribbons for straps, so you’ll want to be sure you can find a good quality matching satin ribbon. Compared to other dresses made entirely of stretch fabric, it’s not quite as comfortable to wear for all-day competitions, but it’s not terrible.
Based on measurements, I traced a size 5 with size 8 girth for my daughter who normally wears a size 7. I should have gone up one more size in girth, so this pattern appears to run large in waist/chest sizing and small in girth. Modifying the pattern to address each measurement specifically will give you a much better fit.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes, except for modifications.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
This was my first Jalie pattern. It wasn’t quite as simple as KwikSew, but it’s pretty easy to follow. This one is especially simple since it has no sleeves. As long as you have a good understanding of working with elastic, it should be no problem.
The body of the dress is stretch velvet and the two underskirts are coordinating power mesh. All hems are rolled twice around for stability and extra body.
Would you recommend it to others?
Definitely. We received tons of compliments on the dress and it’s pretty versatile. It can be used for a wide range of programs.
